Born and raised in Rome, I have been drawing since I can remember. I obtained a BA in Illustration from the Institute of European Design, in 1994. In the same year my work was selected at the Children’s Book Fair in Bologna for my non-fiction project Middle Ages. As result of my selection I worked as colourist for Alibaba, with the animation company Airone Cinematografia. After various small projects as illustrator I decided to move to London to work as a Graphic and Web Designer. A one-year animation course at City Lit taught me how to make narratives through the moving image, and gave me the courage and the confidence to get back to my passion for illustration.
I recently studied for a MA in Children’s Book Illustration. The course has given me the confidence to develop my characters and stories in depth, using new methods and drawing techniques. I am currently using gouache and colouring pencil, but I also enjoy printmaking and collage. I believe that as creatives we should never stop exploring and experimenting with ways to build new visuals and make our stories more exciting.
